Setting Up Power BI to Connect with Stok.ly
What you'll need:
- A Windows computer.
- A Stok.ly account.
- The Stok.ly custom data connector (Download here).
- Power BI Desktop (downloadable from the Microsoft Store here).
Steps:
Install Power BI Desktop: Open the Microsoft Store. Search for "Power BI Desktop" and click "Install". Once installed, click "Open".
Adjust Power BI Settings: In Power BI Desktop, click "File" > "Options and settings" > "Options". Go to "Security" > "Data Extensions". Select the option to allow any extension to load without validation. Click "OK" and close Power BI Desktop.
Install the Stok.ly Connector: Create a new folder in your "Documents" called "Power BI Desktop". Inside that folder, create another folder called "Custom Connectors". Download the latest Stok.ly connector (link above) and place it in the "Custom Connectors" folder.
Set Up Stok.ly App and Role: In your Stok.ly account, go to "Roles" and create a new role called "Power BI". Give this role "view" permissions only. Go to "Apps" and create a new "Unsecure App" called "Power BI". Assign the "Power BI" role to this app. Copy the username and password provided for the app.
Connect Power BI to Stok.ly: Open Power BI Desktop and click "Get data". Search for "Stokly" and select the Stok.ly data connector. Enter the username and password you copied from Stok.ly. Choose the data points you want to use for reporting.
You're all set! You can now create custom reports in Power BI using data from your Stok.ly account.
